GENERAL INFORMATION:
| Biological Significance | Gonadotropin-releasing decapeptide hormone is the key mediator in the integration of the neural and endocrine systems. It regulates the reproductive cycle in both sexes. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulates the gonadotrophs of the anterior pituitary to secrete luteinizing hormone as well as follicle stimulating hormone via specific receptors. The presence of high-affinity binding sites for GnRH has been reported in luteal and granulosa cells as well as in ovarian cell membrane preparations. These receptors have similar binding characteristics to those of GnRH receptors in the anterior pituitary. |
